What is Ulcerative Colitis?
Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease, where the colon (large intestine) and rectum become inflamed and infected. This disease is a long term condition which can occur at any stage of the life.
Nowadays there are many ayurvedic medicines and medical diagnosis which can easily help in its treatment. Given below are some ayurvedic treatment for ulcerative colitis.

Ayurvedic Herbs for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis
The bark of a herbal tree Arjuna also known as ‘Terminalia Arjuna,’ is used effectively for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. This herbal medicine is useful in curing bleeding, inflammation, ulcer and diarrhea.

Kutaj ghanvati
It is an ayurvedic herbal medicine prepared from Kutaj tree and used for the treating the diseases like diarrhea and dysentery. This herb basically works for reducing the side effects and swelling caused in the intestine and hence provides a great relief to the patients suffering from ulcerative colitis.

Vatsakadi kashay
Vatsakadi kashay is an ayurvedic medicine used for healing problems like dysentery, diarrhea, inflammation, bleeding and irritable bowel syndrome.
This ayurvedic medicine is the mixture of various herbs like fennel, bael, coriander, pomegranate, cardamom and nutmeg. The cooling effect of the herb works great in healing the diseases faster and easier.
Pitta balance
It is another effective ayurvedic herbal medicine basically given to the patients for controlling the bleeding and to support their healthy digestion. The calcium compound present in the pitta balance also calms the body by decreasing internal heat and reducing inflammation.
Food which can be used effectively for the treatment
Coconut water, buttermilk, yogurt and vegetable soup.
Vegetables like gourds, long gourd, round gourds, bitter gourd, pumpkins.
Licorice (just a small quantity for chewing).
Prepared a powdered mixture of dried ginger root, black pepper, and long pepper and take 1 tbsp of it with water.
Increase the consumption of cumin seeds, coriander and celery seeds.
Plain grass mainly Doorva Grass (Latin - Cynodon dactylon). Drink 20 ml of its juice daily.
Consume 20 ml juice of marigold flower petals twice a day.
Make a powdered preparation of asafetida, cloves, cinnamon and green. Consume 1 tbsp of the powdery mixture twice a day with water.
Things to be avoided
Tea, coffee, and alcohol.
Avoid all type of fried, oily and salted food.
"Avoid consuming whole peas and beans, broccoli, potato, garlic, jaggery and sweet potato", says Dr Deepak Moudgil, a well known Ayurveda specialist from Ambala.
