Infection of the lungs or airways is called a chest infection. The most common types of chest infection are pneumonia and bronchitis. The former is caused by a bacteria and the latter is caused by viruses.

  • High temperature (fever)

  • Wheezing

  • Rapid heartbeat

  • Breathlessness or rapid and shallow breathing

  • Chest pain or tightness

Steam: Your chest congestion can instantly ease by taking steam before sleep. Boil water and add a pinch of turmeric to it and take its steam. Turmeric has anti inflammatory activity and is a great healer.


Gargle: This is the easiest remedy for chest congestion. In a warm glass of water, add a little salt or turmeric. Gargle twice or thrice a day for fast relief.


Black coffee: Drink 2-3 cups of black coffee to clear chest congestion. Any hot beverage helps in relieving chest clogging. In fact, the caffeine acts as a stimulant that can help get rid of the phlegm in the chest.


Turmeric milk: In a glass of hot milk, add half teaspoon honey, 2 teaspoons of honey and a pinch of black pepper powder. Your turmeric milk is ready to drink. There are other benefits of drinking turmeric milk as well. Drinking will provide instant relief.


Lime and garlic juice: In glass of warm water, add one teaspoon lime juice, a bit of garlic paste with a pinch of salt. Guzzle it down to get instant relief.


Ginger and honey: Boil some ginger in water for 6-7 minutes. Sieve the water in a glass and add one teaspoon honey to it. Drink this water 2-3 times a day for quick relief from chest congestion.


Bay leaves: Boil few bay leaves in water, sieve and drink the water 2-3 times a day.


Onion juice: In a glass of warm water add honey, lemon juice and onion juice. Drink this concoction 2 -3 times a day.


Garlic: Eat raw garlic on juice it to get relief from the problem of chest congestion. You can also apply garlic oil on the chest before you go to sleep. The oil can help in reducing the thickness of mucous.
